For those of us that have never purchased anything online–the idea can seem a bit daunting, especially if you are looking to purchase a big ticket item. However with the wealth of information that is now accessible at our fingertips, there are ways to take the fear out of online shopping. The solution to this is very simple: Do your homework.

You want to be sure that the company you are going to give your business to is reputable. There are a couple of ways to do this. The first of which is to utilize a company that has been a household name for a long time: the Better Business Bureau. Any company that receives an A rating from the BBB is usually a safe bet. Additionally, you can check to make sure that the company hasn’t had any complaints. If they have, it is important to see if and how they were resolved.

Another way to check up on retailers is by checking their review pages. There are a number of these you can look on, but the most popular is via Google. If the company has a 5 star rating from Google, again–you’re probably looking at a good company to purchase from. Another benefit of checking into review sites is that you can read a previous clients thoughts on their experience–not just how many “stars” they received.

Do your homework!
